1. How does basketball in the states compare to the game in Spain?
AM: The basic things are the same, a ball and five on five, but we put the ball into the basket with the foot instead of the hand...(just kidding). I think in the US it is more individualistic and more physical. In Europe, it is more fundamental and team oriented.
2. Valencia is your hometown. Do they make Valencia orange juice there?
AM: The best oranges are from my city....so yeah, we drink a lot of orange juice.
3. How has your game progressed over the past two seasons and where do you expect to be as you move through your junior season and into your senior campaign?
AM: I think my best progession is in the understanding of how basketballl is played here. When I got here, I had experience and I knew the game but it was hard for me to communicate with everybody. Eeach year, I have felt much more comfortable on the court. Hopefully we'll have a great year because we really put a lot of effort into getting ready.
4. Recently, you've been sporting a headband with the colors of Spain. Are you just trying to represent or does it bring you some kind of special power?
AM: Both..one of my friends from Spain sent it to me, and she is the best player in spain , so I was hoping she could pass me some of her game through the headband, and I love my country so what better occasion to represent it
6. You have a little flare in your game. Where did you pick that up and do the coaches give you any grief for your behind-the-back passes?
AM: I just play with my heart because if I thought too much while I was playing I wouldn't do some of the things that I do. I guess the coaches have learned to deal with the way I play.
7. In the A-10, what is your favorite gym to play in, and what team do you look forward to playing against?
AM: Obviously, my favorite gym is Smith Center, I love to play at home, I really apreciate all the support we have at home. If we play away, I don't really care, but I would say Richmond because it is the closest to DC.
8. How did you get from Valencia to Washington, DC? Why GW?
AM: It was a long long process. I wasn't even in Valencia when I started talking with a former assistant coach for GW. I was playing in another city and she saw me and we talked. I was interested in coming to the US and I didn't really talk with any other universities. It is pretty much coincidence that I am here right now.
9. What is your favorite sport besides basketball and why?
AM: Coming from Spain my answer is pretty clear, soccer. There it is a huge deal...however, I am working on knowing all the american sports but they are all too long for what I am used to .
10. If you could play one-on-one against three people, living or deceased, who would they be?
AM: Jordan , Magic Johnson and Duncan would be my selection, but I just talked with the three of them and they told me that they are afraid to play against me, so we are gonna play together..even better....does anybody want to play against us??
5. (English) Being the only member of the team from another country, do you or did you find it difficult to communicate with your teammates at times?
AM: Problems? There wasn't any kind of communication in my freshman year. My second was good, really good, people started to understand me and we really got close as a team. Now , they don't even let me finish my sentences, they understand me even when i say things in spanish...(not really but it is okay).
