GW Announces 2003-04 Men's Basketball Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University has announced its 2003-04 men's basketball schedule, which includes at least seven regionally televised appearances and one national TV appearance.
GW could play as many as six games against teams in the 2003 NCAA Tournament including a potential match-up against either Gonzaga or Maryland in the BB&T Classic Dec. 7 at MCI Center. GW opponents from the 2003 NCAA Tournament field include Texas, Maryland, Saint Joseph's and two games each with Dayton and Xavier. The Colonials also play five games against four opponents from the 2003 NIT field: Richmond (twice), Fairfield, Rhode Island and Temple.
Under third-year head coach Karl Hobbs, GW opens its regular season Nov. 21 at Charlotte. In the 2003 BB&T Classic, the Colonials will face West Virginia on Dec. 6 in the first round of the two-day tournament at MCI Center. Maryland squares off against Gonzaga in the other opening round contest. Championship and consolation games will be played the following day.
GW closes out 2003 with a trip to Austin, TX, to play Texas on Dec. 29. The Longhorns return four starters from last year's Final Four team.
The Colonials host the 10th Red Auerbach Colonial Classic Nov. 28-29 at Smith Center. The Colonials face Appalachian State while St. Francis (NY) and William & Mary round out the tournament field. The Colonials also host Florida International and Towson in non-conference home games while traveling to Norfolk to play Old Dominion.
In Atlantic 10 Conference action, GW will play a home-and-home series against West Division members Dayton, Duquesne, La Salle, Richmond and Xavier. The Colonials also host Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and Temple at Smith Center while traveling to Fordham, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's.
The Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament has undergone a format change for 2004. All games will be played at the University of Dayton Arena March 10-13. All quarterfinal games, both semifinal games and the championship, are scheduled to be televised.
The Colonials, 12-17 in 2002-03, return four starters, including A-10 All-Conference candidate T.J. Thompson (Germantown, MD/Newport School) and A-10 All-Rookie Team member Mike Hall (Chicago, IL/Shepard) along with seven other returning letterwinners as well as six highly-touted newcomers.
