GW Baseball Graduate Chris Barry Signs to Play Pro Ball

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington baseball alumnus Chris Barry '03 (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) made the step up to professional baseball when he signed a contract to join the Frontier League. Barry, who graduated in May, is now an infielder for the Cook County Cheetahs who play their home games in Crestwood, IL.
Barry, who was a team captain for the past two years, amassed some impressive career numbers highlighting his speed and power. He finished with 51 stolen bases good for seventh all-time at GW. He was ninth in runs with 148 while tying for tenth in home runs with 22 and total bases with 286.
While at GW Barry played second base and then moved to centerfield his senior year showing his defensive versatility. He was signed as an infielder by the Cheetahs who recently had a player picked up by the Red Sox opening a spot on their roster.
Coach Tom Walter said "I am thrilled that he got signed and excited about his prospects. Several players have been picked up by Major League Baseball franchises out of the Frontier League."
Barry is the second player from the class of 2003 currently playing professional baseball. Teammate Greg Conden was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres. Conden is playing with the Padres Rookie League team based in Idaho Falls, ID. He has been impressive in his first two outings striking out seven in his first start. His fastball was recently clocked at a smoking 94 MHP.
