WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's Chris Monroe (Hyattsville, MD/Good Counsel H.S.) has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 4 First Team for the second straight year. He is one of 150 men's basketball student-athletes nationwide to be selected from 15 districts. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the 150 student-athletes represent the finest players in the country.
Monroe became the school's all-time leading scorer when he scored 23 points in GW's 85-74 victory at Massachusetts in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament March 10. He added 22 points in GW's loss to No. 10 Xavier in the A-10 quarterfinal round to close out his career with 2,249 points. That total ranks third in Atlantic 10 history. He has converted a total of 720 free throws, also a GW record, and his 956 free throw attempts is just five attempts shy of the school record. He led GW in scoring each of the past two seasons with 21.1 points per game as a junior and 20.2 points per game this season.
Monroe was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection this season and he was named the A-10 Conference co-Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 19-26.
Monroe is joined on the All-District 4 First Team by Georgetown's Mike Sweetney, Drew Schifino of West Virginia, Ricardo Marsh of Old Dominion and Adam Hess of William & Mary.
