George Washington Women's Basketball Signs Five

WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington University women's basketball team signed five recruits during the early signing period, head coach Joe McKeown announced. Whitney Allen (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge), Kenan Cole (Frederick, MD/St. John's School at Prospect Hill), Kristinia Gineitis (Chadds Ford, PA/Cardinal O'Hara), Amanda Locascio (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) and Corinne Turner (Glen Cove, NY/Christ the King) signed national letters of intent with the Colonials.
Blue Star Basketball, a nationally recognized scouting service that publishes the Blue Star Index, a listing of the best high school girl's basketball players, rated GW's incoming class as 18th in the nation after the fall signing period.
Turner, a 6-2 forward from Christ the King High School in Flushing, NY, is one of the top high school players in the nation. Blue Star Basketball ranked Turner 33rd nationally among the senior class. Turner averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game as a junior last year. She was named to the Newsday & Daily News First Team All Brooklyn-Queens Team and News Day First Team All-City and was both a Parade and Street & Smith's All-America Honorable Mention last season.
LoCascio, another Christ the King product, is a 5-8 point guard that is also highly rated on the national level. Blue Star Basketball rated LoCascio as the 68th nationally among the senior class. LoCascio averaged 10 points, eight assists and 2.5 steals per contest last season. Like Turner, LoCascio was named to the Newsday & Daily News First Team All Brooklyn-Queens Team and News Day First Team All-City and was both a Parade and Street & Smith's All-America Honorable Mention.
Gineitis, who plays for Cardinal O'Hara in Springfield, PA, is a 6-3 center/forward who ranks in the top 100 players according to Blue Star Basketball. Gineitis, who averaged nine points and six rebounds her junior year, is ranked 93rd nationally by Blue Star Basketball, and was named a Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention last season. Her high school team, Cardinal O'Hara, finished the 2002 season with a national ranking of eight.
Two local products round out the recruiting class as Allen from Woodbridge, VA and Cole from Frederick, MD will be donning the Buff and Blue in the 2003-04 season. Allen, a member of the All-Cardinal District Second Team, is a 5-11 forward who averaged seven points and five rebounds a game in her junior season for Woodbridge and is averaging 11.4 points per game this season for the Vikings.
Cole, a 5-10 guard/forward from Frederick, MD, is averaging 16.6 points per game this season for the St. John's at Prospect Hall Vikings. Cole has scored 1,599 points for the Vikings through this season and led them to a 24-4 record last season, which included a 16-0 record in conference. Cole posted impressive numbers last year, averaging 18 points and 7.6 rebounds in her junior season.
