GW's Kimberly Sanders To Play Identical Twin Rachel Friday
9/12/2002 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
GW women's soccer coach Tanya Vogel scheduled the game almost three years ago so that the twin sisters could play against each other during their college careers. Kimberly has started two of the Colonial's first three matches this year and is looking for her first career goal on Friday. Rachel has been a standout player for Ohio this year having recorded five points (two goals and an assist) in Ohio's first four matches this season. Rachel's two goals have come on her only shots of the season won of which was a game winner.
Friday's match will be quite the family affair as their younger sister, parents, friends, and three sets of aunts and uncles will make the drive to Ohio to see this sibling rivalry in action. This is historic for the family as the two twins have never played against each other on any level since they have always played on the same team.
This is an important match for the Colonials as a victory would mark their best start during coach Vogel's tenur. Ohio, on the other hand, is trying to match last year's strong season where they won the Mid- American Conference championship. GW plays Ohio to start a three-game road swing with matches against Towson on September 14th and No. 25 Maryland on September 22nd. The Colonials will return home on September 25th to play American at 3:00 p.m.
