WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's tennis team continues to roll posting a 6-1 victory over visiting Duquesne Saturday at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility in northwest Washington. The victory was GW's eighth straight and fourth over an Atlantic 10 opponent this spring. GW improved to 11-5.
The Colonials dominated the singles matches winning 2 through 6. Juniors Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton) and Samantha Fisher (Palm Beach, FL/Benjamin) along with freshmen Natasha Bode (Paradise Valley, AZ/Xavier Prep) and Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray) all won handily.
Senior captain Katarina Stastny (St. Louis, MO/ St. Joseph's Academy) was dominant at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 decision.
"It's a great win and it assures us of a top-three seed in the A-10s," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "This was the best I've seen our doubles team play all year. I am especially pleased with Samantha [Fisher] and Natasha [Bode]'s performance as a doubles team which has gotten steadily better with each match. Sevla [Gonca] is finding her rhythm now, too"
Next up for GW is Temple on Saturday, April 13, at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The match begins at noon.
