Gymnastics Takes Fourth at NCAA Regional Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The George Washington Colonials took fourth place with a score of 192.675 out of a field of six at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday night. GW finished behind Nebraska (195.925), Michigan (195.600), and Iowa (195.475) and were followed by Penn State (192.225) and Pittsburgh (190.975). GW has competed at the NCAA Regional Championship for three-straight years.
As the top two finishers, Nebraska and Michigan will travel to Alabama for the NCAA National Championships April 11-14. GW was selected to compete at the Regional competition after a successful season in which the Colonials won their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, with individual champions on the vault, balance beam, floor exercise, and in the all-around.
Senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) tied for seventh place in the all-around (38.750), while senior teammate Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) tied for 13th (38.175). McCalla's strongest performances were on the vault and the floor exercise. She finished tied for 10th with a 9.800 on the vault and tied for fifth with a 9.850 on the floor. Mantak tied for 20th on the vault (9.675) and 17th on the uneven bars (9.650).
Other top GW finishers include sophomores Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) and Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln), and senior Jamie McNally Old Bridge, NJ/Bishop Ahr). Mann finished tied for 14th on the uneven bars with a 9.675. On the floor exercise, she tied for 15th with a score of 9.750. Parks tied for 17th on the balance beam with a 9.725, while McNally tied for 19th on the floor also with a 9.725.
Alexis Maday of Iowa and Elise Ray of Michigan tied for first in the all-around with a score of 39.450. They were followed by Tami Harris and Richelle Simpson, teammates from Nebraska, who tied for third with a 39.250.
