McCalla Receives Fifth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for gymnastics, the Conference office announced. This marks McCalla's fifth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor this season.
On Friday, March 1 at the Wendy's Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, NC, McCalla took third in the all-around with a score of 39.150. Out of 36 gymnasts, she placed second on the uneven bars with a 9.900 and seventh on the floor exercise with a 9.850. She finished in the top 20 on both the vault (9.750) and the balance beam (9.650).
McCalla ranks first in the Atlantic 10 on the balance beam (9.900), the vault (9.850) and in the all-around (39.450). She also ranks second on both the uneven bars (9.900) and the floor exercise (9.925).
McCalla was first recognized this season with an Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor for her contribution to GW's win at the GW Invitational on January 20 after her first place finish in the all-around. On January 27, she received accolades for her second consecutive victory in the all-around with her combined score of 39.450, which matched her 2001 season high. Her third Atlantic 10 honor, received on February 3, recognized her continued top scores and contribution to her team. On February 26th she received Co-Performer of the Week honors for her third all-around first place finish this season.
McCalla and the Colonials compete tonight when James Madison visits Washington, DC. The meet will begin at 7:00 p.m. in The George Washington University Smith Center. The Colonials will then face Michigan State on Saturday, March 9, also in the Smith Center, at 7:00 p.m.
