WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's tennis team came from behind in two of the singles matches and at No. 2 doubles to defeat visiting Army, 5-1, Saturday at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The victory was GW's fourth straight and improved its record to 7-5 in the spring.
"This was a very good win for us since Army beat UMBC earlier this season, and we had lost to UMBC," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "[Nazli] Genscoy and [Katarina] Stastny came back from a 1-7 deficit to win 9-7 at doubles to clinch the doubles point."
"Sam Fisher and Natasha Bode have really stepped up in the last three matches to get the job done despite having hardly played together at all," Andrews added. "Genscoy came back from a 3-5 deficit, and Wei and Stastny came back from both being down a set. If everyone had not turned it around, this easily could have had a different outcome. It was a fun match to watch because of all of the momentum swings. Army is a good team that is in incredible shape which always fights to the end."
GW has four days off to rest for spring break before facing George Mason, Thursday, March 28, at Fairfax, VA. The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
