FAIRFAX, VA - The George Washington women's tennis team swept the singles matches to defeat George Mason, 6-0, Thursday at the GMU Tennis Courts in Fairfax, VA. The victory was GW's fifth straight and first outdoors this year. GW improved to 8-5 in the spring while the Patriots dropped to 1-5.
"This was Sevla [Gonca]'s first match back since she hurt her knee," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "We moved everyone up a spot but everyone handled the shuffle beautifully and stepped up nicely."
Both junior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton) and senior captain Katarina Stastny (St. Louis, MO/ St. Joseph's Academy) were dominant as neither lost a single game at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Next up for GW is Atlantic 10 rival La Salle on Saturday, March 30, at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The match begins at noon. The GW men's tennis team then takes on La Salle at 4 pm.
