WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's tennis team defeated visiting Toledo, 5-2, Wednesday at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The victory improved GW's record to 6-5 in the spring.
After took two of three doubles matches, Colonials sophomore Nazli Genscoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray) downed Monica Ribero, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Genscoy was coming off an injured ankle in GW's previous match when she was forced to withdraw from her singles match.
Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton) won at No. 3 singles as did Katarina Stastny (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) at No. 4 and Bode at No. 6.
The Colonials' Samantha Fisher (Greenwich, CT/Benjamin School) and Natasha Bode (Paradise Valley, AZ/Xavier Prep) teamed to win the No. 3 doubles match, 8-3.
"Nazli had a tough battle the first set but really turned it on in the second and didn't drop a game - it was impressive to see her crank it up a level despite a sore ankle," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "We had to default Lindy's singles position, her wrist was really bothering her after doubles."
Next up for the Colonials is a match against Army, Saturday, March 17, beginning at 10 a.m. at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility.
