McCalla Receives Sixth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for gymnastics, the Conference office announced. This marks McCalla's sixth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor this season.
Devin McCalla took first in the all-around in both GW meets this week, marking five first place finishes in the all-around this season. Both meets were held at home in the George Washington Smith Center and are the last home meets of the season, as well as in McCalla's college career.
On Wednesday, March 6, against visiting James Madison, McCalla achieved a 9.875 on the vault, a new career high, as well as first place on the apparatus for the meet. She also placed first on the floor exercise with a 9.875, third on the uneven bars (9.775) and second on the balance beam (9.800). Her first place finish in the all-around was with a 39.325.
On Saturday, March 9 against visiting Michigan State, McCalla matched her season best score of a 9.925 on the floor exercise, taking first in that event, as well as on the uneven bars with a 9.875. She finished third on the vault (9.825), fourth on the balance beam (9.800) and took first in the all-around with a score of 39.425.
McCalla ranks first in the Atlantic 10 on the balance beam (9.900), the vault (9.875) and in the all-around (39.450). She also ranks second on both the uneven bars (9.900) and the floor exercise (9.925).
McCalla was first recognized this season with an Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor for her contribution to GW's win at the GW Invitational on January 20 after her first place finish in the all-around. On January 27, she received accolades for her second consecutive victory in the all-around with her combined score of 39.450, which matched her 2001 season high. Her third Atlantic 10 honor, received on February 3, recognized her continued top scores and contribution to her team. On February 26th she received Co-Performer of the Week honors for her third all-around first place finish this season. Her fifth Atlantic 10 recognition, received on March 4, honored McCalla for her third place finish out of a field of 36 at the NC State Wendy's Wolfpack Invitational.
McCalla and the Colonials return to competition on Friday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Kent, Ohio against Kent State.
