WASHINGTON, DC (June 11, 2001) -- Kevin Broadus and Darrell Brooks have been named as men's assistant basketball coaches at The George Washington University, head coach Karl Hobbs has announced.
Broadus comes to GW after serving as an assistant coach at American University for the past four seasons (1998-01). Broadus, a 1990 graduate of Bowie State University, and native of the Washington area, attended Dunbar High School in Washington and Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD.
Broadus also spent three seasons each at UDC (1994-97) and Bowie State (1990-93) in addition to working as a summer camp coach and counselor for the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks.
Brooks comes to GW after spending last year as the head coach at Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD. Under Brooks, WMC ranked among the top three teams in the Centennial Conference in scoring, assists, three-pointers made and steals.
Prior to his stint at WMC, Brooks spent 16 years as an assistant coach at six different schools including George Mason (1993-97), American (1990-93), William & Mary (1988-90), Central State of Ohio (1985-88) and Bowie State (1984-85). He also conducted summer basketball camps at Maliano, Spain, from 1991-95.
Brooks, a 1979 graduate of Bowie State University, played point guard for the Bulldogs from 1975-79.
Broadus and Brooks join Steve Pikiell, who was named to the Colonials' staff earlier this week.
