Highest ranking ever tops off another successful season for Colonials
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 9) - The GW gymnastics team finished the season ranked 17th in the country according to troester.com. The ranking comes after GW's top four finish at this past weekend's NCAA Southeast Regional in Gainesville, FL. It is the highest ranking for a Colonials' gymnastics team in the 25-year history of the program.
GW finished fourth in the regional behind Georgia, Florida and local rival Maryland. The Bulldogs and Gators advanced to the NCAA Championships in Athens, GA., beginning April 17.
The national ranking concludes a year in which the Colonials won their fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, featured the 2001 Atlantic 10 Performer and Coach of the Year and placed four members on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team.
The Colonials will return 10 performers from this year's squad as they attempt to win their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship in 2002. The team will be led by three All-Conference performers in Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/ J.J. Pearce), Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/ Wardlaw-Hartridge) and Jamie McNally (Old Bridge, NJ/Bishop Ahr). Those three, along with the return of Kacey Coyne (McLean, VA/ O'Connell), Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/ Lakeside) and others, will provide the Colonials with a solid foundation from which to build.
