Men's Soccer to Compete in Inaugural DC Collegiate Cup

The coaches of the four schools have come together to develop a venue to showcase the wealth of soccer talent in Washington, DC.
All the teams involved have a distinguished history of achievement both in league and NCAA tournament play.
Reflecting the diversity of Washington, the players come from all over the United States and indeed the world. Their various backgrounds and styles of play combine to provide some of the most exciting soccer in the region.
The four schools play in different conferences, American in the Patriot League, George Washington in the Atlantic 10, Georgetown in the Big East and Howard in the Atlantic Soccer Conference. Combined they play up and down the eastern seaboard. All also play non-conference games that vary from season to season against other well-established programs.
The four competing teams have produced a number of players that have advanced to the professional ranks dating back to the North American Soccer League to the current Major League Soccer (MLS).
American and Georgetown Universities have agreed to host the DC Cup in alternate years. The 2001 DC Cup will be at the Georgetown University's Harbin Field. The format will be similar each year. On the Friday of Labor Day weekend the first game will be Howard University versus George Washington University at 12:00 noon. The second will feature American University versus Georgetown at 2:30 P.M. The losers of the day one game will compete for the Third Place spot at 12:00 noon on Sunday. The Championship game between the two winners will follow at 2:30 P.M.
