Women's Basketball Falls To Xavier In A-10 Final

PHILADELPHIA (AP)(March 5) - Reetta Piipari had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, as No. 12 Xavier captured its second straight Atlantic 10 Conference title with a 81-56 win over George Washington on March 5.
The Musketeers (28-2) beat the Colonials last season as well and won the third conference title in their history, also taking the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championship in 1993.
Jennifer Phillips, the tournament most valuable player, had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Taru Tuukkanen scored 16 and Nicole Levandusky added 11 for Xavier, which has now won 17 in a row and is 17-0 this season when they score 80 or more points. The Musketeers tied a tournament record by making 12 three-pointers in the contest.
Erica Lawrence scored 17 points and Ugo Oha added 15 for George Washington (22-9), which has lost three times in the championship game since winning the conference title in 1996.
Xavier dominated from start to finish, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and opening up a 23-point advantage in the first half. The Musketeers led 41-23 at the break as George Washington shot 9-of-29 (31 percent) from the field.
The offensive surge continued in the second half and the Musketeers led by as many as 28.
