Gymnastics Finishes Third At Florida

Washington, D.C. (March 17) - The Colonials finished third behind the University of Utah and host Florida in the Subway Shamrock Showdown on the campus of the University of Florida on March 17. The Utes won with a score of 196.750, Florida had 196.525, GW had 195.000 and North Carolina finished fourth with a score of 192.275.
GW was led by junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/ J.J. Pearce). McCalla finished fifth on the vault (9.825), third on the bars (9.850), sixth on the beam (9.825) and tied for fifth in the floor exercise (9.875). Her performance earned her third place in the all-around.
Freshman Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/ Lakeside) turned in another fantastic routine on the floor exercise. Mann recorded a 9.875 in the event, which tied her with McCalla for fifth place. Junior Jessica Mantak's (Colonia, NJ/ Wardlaw-Hartridge) evening was highlighted by a 9.825 on the bars, which was good for sixth place. Mantak finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 39.025. Also, senior Darden Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/ Great Bridge) finished sixth in the all-around with a 38.975.
The Colonials have off until Monday, March 19, when they face Maryland for the third time this season. GW returns home on Saturday, March 24, when they host the 2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Championships at Smith Center beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Colonials will be looking for their fourth consecutive conference championship.
