McCalla Makes History With Latest Gymnastics Honor

WASHINGTON, DC (March 12) - Junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/ J.J. Pearce) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week the conference office has announced. It is the first time in Atlantic 10 history that a gymnast has earned performer of the week honors four times in a season.
McCalla had a strong week in helping the Colonials defeat North Carolina and Yale on Saturday, March 10, with a season high team score of 195.575. McCalla won the bars (9.90) and beam (9.90) and set a season high on both the floor exercise (9.95) and all-around (39.425) in that meet. McCalla also won on the bars (9.90) in GW’s narrow loss to Towson on Wednesday, March 7.
McCalla is the Atlantic 10 leader on the floor exercise and in the all-around. She ranks among the Atlantic 10’s top performers in vault, bars and beam.
McCalla and the Colonials return to competition on Saturday, March 17, at Florida. Utah and North Carolina will also be in the competition. The Colonials will attempt to win their fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference Championship on Saturday, March 24, at 1:00 p.m. when they host the competition at Smith Center.
