Gymnastics Rolls Over Rhode Island

Junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) led the way by winning the all-around with a score of 39.400. McCalla won the beam with a score of 9.850, the floor exercise with a score of 9.925 and finished second on the vault with a 9.825, tying a career high. Sophomore Kacey Coyne (McLean, VA/O’Connell) won the vault with a career-high 9.90, tying the school record in the process. Junior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) had another solid performance, finishing second in the all-around with a score of 38.950. Mantak finished second on the beam with a 9.825 and third on the floor exercise with a 9.850, tying a career high. She also finished seventh on the bars with a 9.700.
Rhode Island’s Marissa Medal, the 2000 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, won the bars event with a score of 9.875, but was injured during her beam routine, the last event of the evening for the Rams. The extent of the injury was not immediately known.
