McCalla Named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week

WASHINGTON, DC (February 19, 2001) - Junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce HS) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week and freshman Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/ Abraham Lincoln) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference office has announced. It is the second consecutive week and third time this season that McCalla has won the award.
McCalla, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year, won the all-around with a score of 39.350 at the Towson Invitational on Saturday, February 17. McCalla won the beam with a meet record score of 9.900, finished tied for second on the vault with a 9.800, fourth on the bars with a 9.800 and tied for second on the floor exercise with a 9.875. McCalla ranks first in the Atlantic 10 in the all-around and floor exercise. She ranks second in the conference on the vault.
Parks was given her first Rookie of the Week award because of her excellent performance on the floor exercise in Saturday’s meet. Parks tied for fifth with a score of 9.850 and helped GW finish with a meet record total of 195.175, which earned the Colonials their second consecutive Towson Invitational title.
GW’s next competition is tonight at 8:00 p.m. as the Colonials face Maryland at Smith Center.
