WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 19, 2001) - Junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/ J.J. Pearce) won the all-around title and junior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/ Wardlaw-Hartridge) won both the beam and the bars to lead the Colonials to a 194.750-191.700 victory over the University of Maryland this evening at Smith Center.
McCalla finished with an all-around score of 39.350, which included a victory on the floor exercise with a 9.900. McCalla also finished third on the bars (9.800), second on the vault (9.775) and second on the beam (9.875).
Mantak continued to put up impressive scores and seems destined to have a breakout performance very soon. The junior from New Jersey finished second in the all-around with a 39.175 and won the bars and the beam with a 9.850 and a 9.925, respectively. If Mantak can improve upon her 9.575 on the vault an all-around title could soon follow.
The Terrapins were led by Katherine Schroeder and Gillian Cote. Schroeder finished third in the all-around with a 38.475. Cote finished fourth in the all-around with a 38.425. Cote also won the vault with a 9.825.
GW will travel to East Lansing, MI on Saturday, February 24 to take part in the Spartan Invitational along with Michigan State, Ball State and Towson.
