GW is led by junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce), the 2000 Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year. McCalla is ranked fourth in the country on the beam with an average score of 9.867 and has twice been named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week this season. She also has won the all-around in two of GW’s four meets this year, including a season high 39.400 against Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island on Friday, February 9.
McCalla, senior captain Darden Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) and junior Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) give the Colonials three very capable all-around performers. Wilee won the all-around against Maryland with a score of 39.025 and Mantak has posted consistent scores all season. The Colonials also have received outstanding performances from their underclassmen. Sophomore Kacey Coyne (McLean, VA/O'Connell) has been the Colonials best performer on the vault and ranks 17th nationally on that apparatus with an average score of 9.825. Freshman Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside), who has twice been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, won the floor exercise event at the GW Invitational on January 21 in her collegiate debut.
The Colonials will look to win their third meet in a row this Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Towson Invitational. The Colonials won the meet for the first time last season with a score of 194.375. GW returns home on Monday, February 19 at 8:00 p.m. for a rematch with Maryland at Smith Center. The Colonials will look to win their fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 title when they host the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Center.
