Women's Basketball Receive Atlantic 10 Preseason Accolades

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Nov. 8) - The Atlantic 10 announced the preseason selections for women's basketball as voted by the coaches, naming six Colonials to the all-conference teams, and picking George Washington to win the west division.
Junior forward Erica Lawrence (Nyack, NY/Nyack) and sophomore center Ugo Oha (Houston, TX/Hastings) were named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference first team by the Atlantic 10 coaches. Lawrence led the team in scoring (13.6 ppg), and field goal percentage (.548) and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team last season.
Oha set GW and Atlantic 10 records with her talent as a shot-blocker, swatting 76 shots last season, which set both the GW and Atlantic 10 record for blocks by a freshman. Oha's 2.4 blocks per game average also ranked her 12th nationally. This outstanding performance also earned her a spot on the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Defensive team.
Senior forward Elena Vishniakova (St. Petersburg, Russia/Heathwood Hall) was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference second team. The 6-4 post player averaged 10.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. Vishniakova was a member of last season's Atlantic 10 All-Conference third team.
Junior guard Lindsey Davidson (Brea, CA/Olinda) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Preseason third team. Davidson takes over at the point after averaging 9.5 points per game and 4.7 assists. Davidson set a conference record last season for field goal percentage by a sophomore, shooting 11-12 (.917) against Xavier on January 6, 2001. Her performance ranked second overall in the conference regardless of class standing.
Highly regarded rookies Liz Dancause (Nashua, NH/Nashua) and Greeba Outen Barlow (Columbia, MD/River Hill) were voted on to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie team. Dancause, a 6'0" forward from state champion Nashua High School in Nashua, NH, was regarded as one of the top high school players in the nation for the 2001 class. Dancause led the Nashua Purple Panthers to their third-straight Class L basketball championship last season, averaging 17 points and nine rebounds per contest.
Outen Barlow cored 1,233 points in her career at River Hill High School in Columbia, MD. Outen Barlow led the Hawks to the Howard County title, averaging 18 points and 3.1 assists last season. A two-time Howard County MVP, Outen-Barlow was also named to the Baltimore and Washington All-Metro first teams.
The Colonials (0-0) open their regular season on Saturday, November 17, against the University of Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
