PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 12) - George Washington men's soccer shutout Temple in an afternoon Atlantic 10 conference match at Temple Stadium.
The Colonials and Owls staged a defensive battle in the first half, with the two teams mustering only six shots for the period, two by GW and 4 by TU.
With the teams knotted in a scoreless tie, GW came out of the break attacking. GW's senior midfielder Matt Pilkington, (Manchester, Eng./Sheffield Hallam Univ.) received a pass at half-field from junior midfielder Riccardo Forno, (Toronto, Canada/James Cardinal McGuigan). Pilkington sprinted to the left wing, than broke back to the inside, beating two TU defenders, netting a shot from 16 yards out. The goal was Pilkington's seventh on the season, tying him for the team lead with jnior forward Mattthew Osborne (Bingham, Notts/Toothill Comprehensive).
GW's keeper, senior Nick Parypinski notched his first shutout of the season, making six saves, stopping all of the Owl's six shots on the day.
With the victory the Colonials improved to 5-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. GW will remain in Philadelphia to face St. Joseph's University on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 pm at the Hawk'e home venue Finnesey Field.
