WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 22) - Junior Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce HS) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week and freshman Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference office has announced.
McCalla, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year, won the all-around with a score of 39.000 at the GW Invitational on Sunday. McCalla also finished first on the beam with a score of 9.900, third on the bars (9.725) and floor exercise (9.775) and fifth on the vault (9.600). She ranks among the Atlantic 10's top five performers in each event.
Mann was solid in her collegiate debut. She began the meet by finishing seventh on the vault (9.525), but saved her best performance for the last event. Mann captured the attention of all those in attendance during her fabulous routine on the floor exercise, which earned her a score of 9.850 and the event title.
GW placed second in the seven-team GW Invitational with a total of 191.900, falling just short of NC State's 192.350.
GW's next competition is February 2 at 7:00 p.m. as the Colonials compete at Kentucky with the Wildcats and Georgia.
