The game-winning tally was created by junior Tiffany Williams who eluded a UMBC defender just outside of the box and found a streaking Warner wide open in the center of the field. Warner then took a few dribbles and beat UMBC keeper Becky Hicock with a low shot into the right corner of the net. Williams also scored George Washington's first two goals, including a tally at the 75:18 mark, which evened the score at 2-2.
UMBC took an early 1-0 advantage at the 20:16 mark as senior forward Beverly Campbell took a feed from classmate Erin Lesh and beat Colonials' keeper Christine O'Malley from point-blank range. George Washington evened the game just over eight minutes later as Williams headed in a cross from junior Angelica Caramanica. The Retrievers took their final lead of the game at the 39:18 mark as Lesh took a pass from sophomore Nicole Grinspoon and tapped the ball past O'Malley from five yards out. Freshman Jessa Karko was also credited with an assist on the play.
UMBC outshot George Washington, 24-18, however the Colonials dominated the overtime, outshooting UMBC, 3-0. O'Malley earned her first career victory and made nine saves in the match. Hicock made four saves in a losing cause.
