Washington, DC (September 29, 2000)- Sophomore Matt Osborne (Bingham Notts, England/Toothill Comprehensive School) scored two penalty kick goals for the second straight game to lead the Colonials in their first Atlantic 10 match.
George Washington applied the pressure early and often in the game, but was unable to score on any of their first 23 shots. Temple's Drew Moser saw his first action of the season in the net, preserving the 0-0 tie with eight saves in the first half on 19 GW shots.
GW wore down Temple keeping the action in the Owls' end for a majority of the match. Temple was only able to muster five shots on goal, and were kept on their heels on defense all day. In the end, it was the Colonials' final three shots on goal that turned the tide of the match.
Late penalties doomed the Owls when in the 78th minute a Temple defender fouled the Colonials' Junior Matt Pilkington (Cheshire, Wales/Sheffield Hallam University) in the penalty area. Osborne converted the penalty kick which became the game-winner. GW's last four goals over two matches have all been scored on penalty kicks shot by Osborne.
Frustration and fatigue led to a second foul in the box by Temple in the 84th minute and allowed Osborne to notch his fourth penalty goal, bringing his total to a team-leading seven scores on the season.
The Colonials sealed the match on their third goal in nine minutes, one scored in a more conventional manner than the previous two. Junior Jason Halloway (Milwaukee, WI/Marquette University High School) scored on a pinpoint cross from freshman Justin Evans (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington High School) off a quick pass from Senior Jeff Greenspan (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills). The goal was Halloway's second on the season, and Greenspan's fourth assist. Evans' assist was his first career point at GW. Junior keeper Junior Nick Parypinski (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) recorded his third shutout on the season.
