Women's Soccer Recruit Finishes Second at Club National Championships

The tournament, consisting of the four winners from their respective regions (northeast, midwest, southeast and west), is played in a round-robin format, with the top two teams meeting again in the final. D'Hondt's team, representing the midwest, advanced to this year's final with a pair of 2-1 victories over the Texas Challenge and Weston (CT) Wild Thing. The round-robin format meant that the Hawks still had to play Colorado in group play, regardless of the fact that both teams had already advanced to play each other in the final. The Rush prevailed in that match, 1-0.
This was not DHondt's first national championship appearance of the year. Her Michigan ODP team won the first ODP National Championship back in February. D'Hondt and her GW teammates arrive in DC August 10 for meetings and will begin training the following day.
The Colonials open the 2000 season Sunday, August 27 with a 1:00 pm match at Georgetown.
