Baseball Loses To James Madison 17-4

Washington, DC- The George Washington baseball team lost to James Madison University 17-4 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. The Dukes used an eight-run ninth inning to blow-open the game and defeat the Colonials.
The Dukes exploded for 17 runs behind the bats of Eric Bender (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg), Brent Metheny (Moorefield, W.VA/Moorefield) and Greg Miller (Herndon, VA/Herndon). Bender collected two hits on the day, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Dukes a 5-0 lead. The home run was Bender's fourth of the season.
Metheny went 3-4 on the day with three RBI's. The big hit for Metheny came in the eighth inning when he connected for a two-run home run, his third of the season.
Miller had two hits on the day with four RBI's.
Chris Cochran (Reston, VA/South Lakes) pitched seven strong innings to earn the win and even his record to 4-4 on the season. Cochran only allowed two runs and set a new career high by striking-out 11 batters.
The Colonials could only produce four runs against the Dukes' pitching. Junior Adam Belicic (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) led the way for the Colonials. Belicic hit two doubles and had two RBI's on the day.
Sophomore Mike O'Connor (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joe's) started for the Colonials and suffered his second loss of the season, dropping his record to 1-2 on the season.
The Colonials return to the diamond next when they host conference opponent Dayton for a three-game series this weekend at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. A double-header is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, with the final game of the series set for noon on Sunday.
