Aguilar, a preseason all-America selection this year for the second consecutive season, was a first-team Atlantic 10 all-conference selection this season. Aguilar tallied her 1,000th career point and 300th career assist this season. She ended her career with 1,322 career points, ranking 10th in the GW career record book. Aguilar posted a 15.7 points per game career scoring average, third-best in GW history, and the school's top career free throw percentage with 83.5% accuracy.
Since 1984, the Abbie Oliver Smith Award has been presented annually to an outstanding member of the women's basketball team, recognizing leadership, academic achievement and athletic ability. Also the 1998 and 1999 winner of the award, Egleston provided saavy, veteran leadership and experience this season. A deadly perimeter shooter, Egleston tallied 124 made three-pointers during her career, ranking fourth in the GW career record book. Egleston amassed 401 career assists, third-best in the GW record book.
In the classroom, Egleston posts an excellent 3.52 grade point average, and is in the GW honors program. She is also a four-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the GW Athletic Department Honor Roll.
Also winning team awards were Corrin Reid (Unsung Hero), Starr Jefferson (Most Improved), Leslie Carlson (Courage Award) and Erica Lawrence (Newcomer of the Year).
Junior guard Reid (Alexandria, VA) received the Unsung Hero award. Reid is not a player at the center of media attention, though her quiet contributions to the team throughout the season were integral to the team's success. A quiet leader and a model for the other players, Reid consistently stepped up and contributed when the team need her the most. Her timely contributions and solid work ethic made the players around her better.
Senior forward Jefferson (Bowie, MD) received the Most Improved Award. Jefferson is a tough, physical player and one of the strongest rebounders on the team. Behind a strong work ethic, co-captain Jefferson worked her way into the starting lineup this year and led the team in rebounding.
Junior center Leslie Carlson (Newington, CT) received the team's Courage Award. Carlson received the Courage Award after struggling with back injuries over the past several years, yet managing to endure the pain and resultant physical therapy and treatment to contribute to the success of the team.
Lawrence (Nyack, NY) received the team's Newcomer of the Year Award. Lawrence started all but one game this season as a freshman, and was named to the Atlantic 10 third team all-conference squad and to the all-rookie team. Lawrence, named the A-10's Rookie of the Week three times this season, led the Colonials with a 52% field goal shooting percentage.
GW ended the 2000 season with a 26-6 record. The Colonials were 14-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, claiming their sixth Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season championship in the past seven years. GW also appeared in their sixth NCAA Tournament in the past seven years and eighth overall.
