Gymnastics Wins Third Straight A-10 Championship

AMHERST, MA (Mar. 18, 2000) - GW captured its third straight Atlantic 10 Conference championship with a record team score of 195.675 at Curry Hicks Cage on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. GW's team score topped last year's A-10 Championship record score of 194.650.
Sophomore Devin McCalla was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Championship after winning the all-around with a score of 39.50-also a Championship record. McCalla's 9.80 won the vault and the uneven bars where her 9.90 equalled the third-highest score in school history.
Rhode Island's Marissa Medal was selected Most Outstanding Rookie while Rams' coach Charlie Connery was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.
GW sophomore Jamie McNally tied for second on the vault with a 9.75. Colonials sophomore Jessica Mantak and McCalla tied UMass's Mandy Mosby for second on the balance beam, each posting a 9.85. Medal won the event with a 9.875.
GW senior Erica Lewy was one of four gymnasts (along with McCalla) who tied for second in the floor exercise with a 9.95. Mosby won the event with a championship record-tying 9.975.
The Colonials' next competition is the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 1.
