George Washington Cruises Past Rhode Island, 60-48

KINGSTON, RI (Feb. 11) -- Junior guard Kristeena Alexander scored 16 points to leads George Washington past Rhode Island, 60-48, tonight in Keaney Gymnasium. Alexander was a perfect 6-6 from the field, including 3-3 from three-point range as the Colonials improved to 19-3, 10-1 for the season.
Preseason all-America guard Elisa Aguilar scored 12 points, all in the first half, on 4-9 three-point shooting. Junior center Leslie Carlson tallied nine points on 4-5 shooting. Forwards Erica Lawrence and Petra Dubovcova each scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Forward Shannon Boor led Rhode Island (2-20, 2-10) with 15 points. Yatar Kuyateh scored 13 points, and Rhonda Pacheco tallied 10.
With the Rams suiting up just six players, GW used their size advantage to outscore Rhode Island 34-14 in the paint. The Colonials patented pressure defense swiped 14 steals and forced 30 Rhode Island turnovers, which the Colonials converted into 30 points.
GW returns to action Sunday with a 2:00pm tilt at St. Bonaventure, when the Colonials will seek to record their ninth 20-win season in the past 10 years.
