WASHINGTON D.C. (November 3, 2000) - George Washington University sophomore forward Matt Osborne (Bingham, Notts, England/Toothill Comprehensive School) has been named to the All-Atlantic 10 first-team and junior Matthew Pilkington (Manchester, England/Sheffield Hallam University) was selected to the second-team in voting conducted by conference head coaches, the conference announced today.
In addition to Osborne and Pilkington, freshmen Sean Ross (Tacarigua, Trinidad/St. Mary's) and Fabio Andrade (Stoughton, MA/Xaverian Brothers Academy) have been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
Osborne led the team in goals with 15 and points with 32. He was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on October 23. At one point this season, the relentless junior scored in six straight matches and he scored in 10 of the team's final 12 matches. Osborne has moved to 24th on GW's all-time scoring list and still has two years of eligibility remaining as a Colonial.
Pilkington scored five goals and had two assists. His five goals were good for second on the squad behind Osborne. The newcomer added toughness to the lineup and gave the team another threat on offense.
Andrade was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on September 18. The quick and creative freshman also helped stabilize the midfield for the Colonials.
Ross helped anchor the defense for the Colonials and was a major reason the team reduced its goals against from 32 last year to 19 this season.
Osborne, Pilkington, Andrade and Ross, along with the rest of the Colonials (9-5-3), face Dayton (14-3-1) today at 5:30 in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament in Kingston, RI.
