Colonials Blast Howard 119-80

WASHINGTON (AP) - Chris Monroe had 26 points, SirValiant Brown had 25 and Mike King added 24 as host George Washington crushed crosstown foe Howard 119-80 in the opening round of the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic on Friday.
GW (3-0) set a record for most points in a game at the on-campus Smith Center, which opened in November, 1975.
The Colonials will play Boston University, a 66-60 winner over Quinnipiac in the earlier game, on Saturday for the Classic championship.
Howard (0-3), which missed six of its first seven shots, received 16 points from Jonathan Stokes and 13 from reserve Reggie Morris. The Bison were outrebounded 49-25. Patrick Ngongba came off the bench to grab a career-high 14 rebounds and score 12 points for hot-shooting GW. Bernard Barrow had 10 points and nine assists for GW.
The Colonials made seven of their first eight shots from the field Friday, led by 17 points less than 10:00 into the game and 56-43 at halftime. King's 3-pointer lifted him over the 1,000-point mark for his career early in the second half and began a 9-0 run that gave GW a 74-53 lead with 13:13 left to play.
Brown had 20 of his points in the first half and Monroe scored 14 of his before halftime. GW now leads the series with Howard 4-1.
Friday's game was the first time that GW coach Tom Penders, in his 30th year as a college coach, faced Howard.
