Slow Start Dooms Women's Soccer, 3-1
10/6/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
White opened the scoring at 34:23 of the first half with a blast from the top of the box that got by GW goalkeeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior). Eight minutes later Gavaghan received a nice pass from Blair Hontz and put a head flick past O'Malley to extend the lead to 2-0.
The second half opened with more of the same as Amy Schneider beat O'Malley to a loose ball in the box and then gained control and tapped it into a wide open net to give the Explorers a commanding 3-0 lead at the 58 minute mark. GW continued to play hard and their aggressiveness paid off at the 63:32 mark when Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) scored her seventh goal in four games to cut the lead to 3-1. The Colonials, led by junior Angelica Caramanica (Huntington, NY/Huntington) continued to pressure La Salle's goalkeeper Kaitlin Glass the rest of the way, but could not put one by the junior netminder.
The Colonials have off tomorrow before returning to South Riding on Sunday afternoon to play Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
