Washington, DC - (October 29, 2000) - Colonials forward Matt Osborne (Bingham, Notts, England/Toothill Comprehensive School) added two more goals to his team-leading total and goalkeeper Nick Parypinski (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) preserved a hard-fought tie with the first place Dayton Flyers today at South Riding Field.
GW struck first early in the match when at the two-minute mark Osborne converted a cross from Jason Holloway (Milwaukee, WI/Marquette Univ. HS) off a throw-in from Justin Evans (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington).
The Flyers came back four minutes later when Atlantic 10 points leader R.J. Kaszuba scored on a free kick play at the top of the box. Erik Nelson made a quick touch pass to Patrick Wirtz who then passed to Kaszuba who placed a low shot past Parypinski.
The Colonials kept up the pressure in the first half attacking the goal and scored on a penalty kick by Osborne. The penalty shot was a result of Dayton's Chris Harder receiving a caution in the penalty box when he knocked down a shot on goal with his hand to prevent the score. The Flyers were able to add a late first half score when Michael Nsien headed in a corner kick from Nelson.
Despite allowing two goals in the half, Parypinski had another outstanding match making 11 saves on 26 shots including a pivotal penalty kick by Dayton's Lee Crawford in the first half.
For the next 75 minutes the Colonials and Flyers battled back and forth with neither team able to score the winning goal. Dayton peppered the goal, outshooting GW 16 to six after halftime. The two talented squads ultimately played to a stalemate through two overtime periods.
The Colonials (9-5-3, 6-3-1 A-10) and Flyers (14-3-1, 8-1-1, A-10) may meet again next weekend in the Atlantic 10 tournament when GW and Dayton travel to Kingston, RI.
