The two teams battled to a scoreless tie after regulation, although both teams had a number of chances before the overtime. Redshirt freshman Kim Warner (North York, Ontario/St. Joseph's) led GW with five shots, while junior Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) fired three and freshman Colleen Ragan (Coatesville, PA/Downingtown Senior) and junior tri-captain Jessica Sultzer (Providence, RI/Barrington) had two apiece.
Xavier finally broke the tie with three minutes left in the first overtime on a hard shot inside the box off the foot of senior midfielder Margaret Broe. Katie Porter was credited with the assist on a perfect cross from the left side.
Xavier's victory overshadowed a strong performance by GW freshman goalkeeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) who notched ten saves.
GW will close out its season on Sunday, October 29 against Dayton at 1:00 p.m.
