Rhode Island got on the board first when sophomore Heather Kasparek took a cross in front of the box from Mary Drapetis and slipped the ball past GW goalkeeper Christine O'Malley (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) for a 1-0 lead at the 17:10 mark. The Rams scored their second goal of the game when Kittelson took the ball at midfield and fed the ball to Drapetis who connected with Kasparek for a 2-0 advantage at the 19:34 mark.
The Colonials responded immediately as junior Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) put in a pass from redshirt freshman Kim Warner (North York, Ontario/St. Joseph's) for her team leading eighth goal of the year to make the score 2-1 at the 20:36 mark. GW tied the game at the 24:36 mark when Coppedge tallied her second goal of the game on a pass inside the box from junior Angelica Caramanica (Huntington, NY/Huntington). With time winding down in the first half, Kittelson stole the ball on the Colonials side of the field and scored on a breakaway at the 43:28 mark for a 3-2 halftime lead. The Rams added two-second half goals, but Kittelson's breakaway just before the half proved to be the crucial blow.
GW fell to 4-10 overall and 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 with the loss. The Colonials will stay up north for the weekend and play Massachusetts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
