The sophomore from Dallas, TX, won the balance beam with a score of 9.800 and she won the uneven parallel bars with a 9.875, the fourth-highest score in GW history. McCalla, the 1999 A-10 Rookie Performer of the Year, also claimed the floor exercise title with a score of 9.850 and placed second in the vault with a 9.575. Only William & Mary's Nikki Dattoli's winning score of 9.600 in the vault kept McCalla from sweeping all four apparatuses.
We got off to a slow start on the vault but these guys are fighters, said GW head coach Margie Foster Cunningham. They are really focused on getting to the [NCAA] regionals this year and to score a 191.875 this early in the season is a great start for us.
North Carolina's Brooke Wilson placed second in the all-around with a total of 38.875, just ahead of GW junior Darden Wilee with a third-place score of 38.575. Penn's Jenn Capasso was fourth with a score of 37.950.
The Colonials' next meet is at William & Mary on Jan. 29 at Williamsburg, VA, before returning to host Maryland Feb. 7 at Smith Center.
