Fordham Rallies to Defeat Women's Soccer, 3-2

BRONX, NY (Sept. 26, 1999) -- The George Washington women's soccer team took the lead in the 76th minute, but Fordham responded with two goals to defeat the Colonials, 3-2, handing the team its first Atlantic 10 loss of the season.
GW struck first when sophomore Kesha Christoph (Newark, DE/Tatnall School) scored in the 19th minute from freshman Caroline Donaghue (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris) and sophomore Erin Coppedge (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's). The Colonials took that lead into the half. Fordham tied the game for the first time when Meghan Rogers headed the ball into the net in the 56th minute.
Following 20 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore Tiffany Williams (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) netted her second goal in as many games at the 76:27 mark on a pass from senior Carina Sonberg (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill H.S.). Less than one minute later, Casey Finnegan scored off of a corner kick to tie the match at two. Emily Parella netted the match-winner from 12 yards out in the 85th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Ashfield (Scarborough, Ontario/Bethune Collegiate) made six saves in 90 minutes.
For the game, GW was outshot 14-6. The Colonials move to 1-9-0 (1-1-0) while the Rams improve to 2-5-2 (1-1-0)
GW travels to La Salle on Sunday for a match against the Explorers at 1 p.m.
