McCalla, Wilee Represent GW at NCAA Regionals

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 12, 1999) -- Sophomore Darden Wilee and freshman Devin McCalla concluded the 1999 gymnastics season by competing in the NCAA Gymnastics Regionals, Saturday at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.
Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) placed tenth in the all-around with a score of 38.650, posting a 9.700 on the vault, a 9.575 on bars, a 9.575 on beam and a 9.800 on the floor exercise. At the A-10 Championships held on March 27 in Philadelphia, PA, Wilee led the Colonials to their second consecutive Conference title with a school-record score of 194.650. Wilee finished second in the all-around with a season- and personal-high score of 39.200.
McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) placed eighth in the all-around with a score of 38.875. The 1999 A-10 Rookie Performer of the Year recorded a 9.725 on the vault, a 9.675 on the bars, a 9.725 on the beam and a 9.625 on the floor exercise. McCalla set a school record for the highest all-around score when she posted a 39.300 against Towson University March 3.
The University of Alabama scored a 196.625 to win its 15th regional title in 17 years.
The Colonials finished their season with an 11-16 record.
