Goldsmith Receives A-10 Honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 22, 1999) -- George Washington University gymnast, Stephanie Goldsmith, received Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors for her performances against powerhouse University of Georgia and N.C. State University last weekend at Athens, GA.
Goldsmith, a sophomore from Atlantic Beach, NY/Lawrence, was the Colonials' top performer on the vault. Her season-high score of 9.800 placed her sixth overall. Her score also ties as the third-best vault performance in the Conference this season. Goldsmith also scored a 9.625 on the floor exercise.
In addition to Goldsmith, four other Colonials are represented on the Conference's top performances list. Freshman Devin McCalla (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) is second in the Conference on vault (9.825), first on the uneven bars (9.925) and balance beam (9.925), and third on the floor exercise (9.900). She also leads the Conference in the all-around with a 39.300. Freshman Jessica Mantak (Colonia, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) is fourth in the Conference on the uneven bars (9.875) and seventh on the balance beam (9.850). Sophomore Darden Wilee (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) is sixth on the vault (9.750), sixth on the uneven bars (9.850) and third in the all-around (39.200). Junior Erica Lewy (Chicago, IL/Middletown South, NJ) is tied for the first place spot in the conference on the floor exercise with a 9.925.
The Colonials completed their regular season with an 11-16 record. They will travel to Philadelphia, PA, on Saturday, March 27 to compete in the Bell Atlantic - Atlantic 10 Championships held at Temple University.
