McKeown, Aguilar Nearing Career Milestones For Women's Basketball

McKeown seeks to tally his 300th career coaching victory against the Lady Hawks. With a 299-107 (73.6%) career record in 14 seasons, McKeown is the 16th winningest active coach in women's college basketball.
McKeown is in his 11th season at GW, where he is the school's winningest women's basketball head coach with a 231-87 (72.6%) mark. McKeown is also the winningest coach in the Atlantic 10 Conference with 127 A-10 victories. He is 29 A-10 wins shy of becoming the conference's all-time winningest coach, who is presently Theresa Grentz, Grentz won 156 conference games at Rutgers when the university was an A-10 member in the 1980s and early 1990's.
McKeown posted a 68-20 record in three seasons as head coach at New Mexico State prior to coming to GW for the 1989-90 season.
McKeown was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1991. In 1997, he was named the Women's Basketball Coach's Association District 2 Coach of the Year after leading the Colonials to a 28-6 record and the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. McKeown was also a national coach of the year nominee in 1997 and in 1995, when GW advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. McKeown led his Colonials to Atlantic 10 Tournament titles in 1996, 1995 and 1992. Under McKeown's guidance, GW has posted 20-win seasons in eight of the past nine seasons.
Aguilar enters the UMES contest Tuesday with 974 career points, 26 shy of the 1,000 career points milestone. Aguilar would become the 17th Colonial to reach the plateau.
The senior guard from Madrid, Spain, was a preseason all-America honorable mention selection this year by Street & Smith's. A candidate for Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year recognition, Aguilar was a first-team all- conference selection last year, as well as preseason all-America by both Street & Smith's and Athlon. As a newcomer to the league in 1997-98, Aguilar was named Atlantic 10 Conference co-Rookie of the Year and second team all-conference. She also competed in the 1998 FIBA Women's World Championship with the Spanish National Team.
Aguilar currently leads GW in scoring with 13.3 points per game, and is tied for the team lead with 3.0 assists per game. Aguilar has led the team in scoring in five of nine contests this year, including a personal season-high with 26 points in the victory over Santa Clara Monday night.Aguilar posts a 16.0 point per game career scoring average, third in the GW history book.
GW is 7-2 on the season after the 83-77 overtime victory over Santa Clara. The loss was Santa Clara's first of the season as the Broncos fell to 9-1.GW meanwhile has won five consecutive games and seven of the past eight. The Colonials are receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls.
