Healy joins GW after serving three years as Cleveland State University's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator under former Colonials' baseball coach Jay Murphy. The former pitcher was a four-year starter at George Washington where he holds school records for career appearances, starts and innings pitched. Following his senior year, Healy was named second team Atlantic 10 All-Conference, second team All-Region and second team All-ECAC. As a senior, he posted a 7-3 record, while his 2.25 ERA ranked 12th in the nation. The righthander also served as a team captain his senior year.
A native of Ballston Spa, NY, Healy graduated with a degree in criminal justice.
This past summer, Healy was the head coach of the Schenectady Mohawks in the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League, where he led the team to a 28-11 record and a regular-season championship. In the summer of 1998, Healy was the pitching coach for the Cotuit Kettlers in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
"Dennis brings the skills of the first legitimate pitching coach to the program since 1997," Walter said. "I'm certain he's going to take our pitching staff to the next level and help guide the team to postseason play. Dennis brings a tremendous work ethic along with his ability to coach pitchers and a proven winning record."
The Colonials open their season Feb. 11 at Stetson in the first of a three-game series. In 1999, GW posted a 26-30 record, 10-11 in the Atlantic 10.
