WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 14) -- George Washington used a stifling full-court pressure defense to force Vologda Russia into 47 turnovers as the Colonials cruised to a 95-62 victory this evening at Smith Center in the Colonials' final exhibition contest.
Five Colonials scored in double-figures, led by preseason All-American guard Elisa Aguilar's 16 points. Junior forward Petra Dubovcova and junior guard Kristeena Alexander tallied 14 points apiece. Freshman guard Lindsey Davidson scored 13 points in just 16 minutes of action, and junior guard Corrin Reid added 11 points.
GW jumped out to a 12-3 lead on Alexander's jumper with 14:01 remaining in the first half. Vologda trimmed the deficit to 12-6 on a pair of Zoya Toutouevea free throws 13:24 in the first half. GW countered with a 16-3 run capped by Reid's free throws at 7:08, and the rout was on.
After leading 39-27 at halftime, GW pounded Vologda with full-court defensive pressure that Vologda was unable to manage. GW outscored Vologda 56-35 in the second half, taking advantage of the numerous turnovers to create transition scoring opportunities.
GW tips off the regular season with a 7:00 pm (CST) game Nov. 19 at Vanderbilt. Fans may listen to the game on GW campus radio station WRGW, which is also available via the internet at www.gwradio.com.
