Rodriguez-Smith Resigns As GW Women's Soccer Coach

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Michele Rodriguez-Smith has resigned from her post as head coach of the women's soccer program at The George Washington University to pursue other interests, Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz has announced.

Rodriguez-Smith's teams compiled a record of 14-25-1 over the last two seasons. She was named the Colonials' interim head coach in 1998 after four seasons as GW's assistant coach. She replaced former head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski who left GW to coach the United States U-18 Women's National Team and has since been named head coach at the University of Maryland College Park.

Rodriguez-Smith's 1998 GW squad posted an 11-10 overall record, 9-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and qualified for the 1998 A-10 Women's Soccer Championship for the sixth consecutive year. That team set a school record with eight consecutive victories after an 0-6 start.

The 1999 Colonials finished with an overall record of 3-15-1, 3-7-1 in the A-10.
