St. Bonaventure "Posts" 2-1 Win Over Men's Soccer
10/21/1999 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Senior midfielder Evan Nierman gave GW a 1-0 lead with two seconds remaining in the first half when he netted a 22-yard free kick from just beyond the top of the box.
GW had a slight advantage of the run-of-play in a very physical match until freshman forward Matthew Osborne was sent off in the 51st minute after receiving his second yellow card of the match. The Bonnies capitalized on the ejection and began dominating the match. GW was whistled for 32 fouls in the match while 22 were called against St. Bonaventure. GW also received eight cards, while none were shown to St. Bonaventure.
Senior forward Tom Lemmon drew St. Bonaventure level in the 76th minute when Andrey Babak slipped Lemmon a pass at the top of the box and Lemmon spun and banked a 17-yard shot into the goal off the left post. The goal was Lemmon's 17th of the season, which leads the conference.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Parypinski tallied two saves between the pipes for GW. Rob Vartughian, this week's A-10 Player of the Week, was not required to make a save for the Bonnies.
