Ingrid Wicker-McCree, Ed.D. ('89) was a member of the George Washington women's volleyball team from 1985-88, and graduated with a degree in criminal justice. Wicker-McCree went on to earn a master's degree in recreation resources administration from North Carolina State University in 1991 and finished her doctoral studies in higher education administration at NCSU in 2008.
After her career as a student-athlete with the Colonials, Wicker-McCree began her professional career as a two-sport coach before making the transition into athletic administration. After serving as North Carolina Central University's Associate Athletics Director for Internal Affairs, Wicker-McCree currently serves as NCCU's Director of Athletics, a position she has held since the spring of 2008. She began her career at NCCU as the head coach of both the women's volleyball and softball programs, and became the first coach in school history to win conference championships in multiple sports with NCCU's first-ever conference titles in softball (1998) and volleyball (1999, 2004, 2005).
Wicker-McCree is also a three-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Coach of the Year and she was inducted into the NCCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. She has served in a variety of leadership positions in both conference and national level organizations, most notably as President of the CIAA Executive Board from 2004-06. She is just the second woman to ever hold the position in the league's history. In addition, Wicker-McCree served as a member of the NCAA's Division II Legislation Committee from 2003-07. In recognition of her work, she received the CIAA Leadership Award for Service and was named the CIAA Senior Woman Administrator of the Year in the spring of 2006. She retired from her position in May 2022 after 28 years of service at NCCU.
