Kiana Quolas joined George Washington softball as an assistant coach in August 2018 ahead of its inaugural season under head coach Shane Winkler, working primarily with the pitchers and catchers.
The Colonials won a program-record 44 games in her first season with the Buff and Blue en route to a share of their first Atlantic 10 title and an appearance in the National Invitational Softball Championship Liberty Regional.
GW's historic run was sparked by excellent pitching from Sierra Lange, who was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and the NFCA All Mid-Atlantic Region First Team after ranking among the national leaders in wins (31) and strikeouts (246).
Working under Quolas, the Colonials posted a team ERA of 3.48 in 2019, which ranked third in program history. They struck out 313 batters in 412 1/3 innings.
Quolas, a decorated collegiate pitcher, spent the 2018 season working for Atlantic 10 foe George Mason. There, she oversaw a pitching staff that ranked in the top half of the A-10 in ERA (3.45) and strikeouts (227). The Patriots posted a 12-10 mark in A-10 play and earned the No. 4 seed for the conference championship.
Â
Quolas got her start in coaching at Youngstown State, serving as a graduate assistant coach in charge of pitchers and catchers from 2015 to 2017. The Penguins recorded at least 30 wins in both her seasons there, highlighted by a trip to the Horizon League Championship final in 2017.
Â
Quolas played at Coastal Carolina from 2011 to 2015, twice being named the Big South Pitcher of the Year. She earned All-Big South honors four times with three first-team nods, and she was a two-time NFCA All-Region honoree. She was also a three-time Big South All-Academic pick.
Â
A native of California, Quolas graduated cum laude from Coastal Carolina in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science. She went on to earn her master's degree in gerontology from Youngstown State.
